Initiation

Introduction


Gustavo was twenty-five years old and had a body that seemed built to endure and to be destroyed. He was almost one meter eighty-five, broad shoulders, a perfect V-shaped back, abs hard as stone, and thick thighs from years of heavy squats. He worked as a personal trainer in a neighborhood gym that always smelled of hot rubber, acidic and metallic sweat. The machines squeaked, the mirrors were full of greasy handprints, and the air conditioning never quite dried the humidity from the air. There, Gustavo was a figure of almost religious respect. Clients followed his routines without arguing, women smiled at him more than necessary when he corrected their posture, and men asked him for supplement advice as if he guarded some sacred secret about strength.

On the outside, he projected absolute control. He counted calories obsessively, measured macros, slept barely five hours, and got up before dawn to train alone in the dark. No one suspected that, when he closed the door of his small apartment every night, a sense of emptiness pressed on his chest with increasing force. As if he had built a perfect armor around a black hole he could not name. Sometimes, after an especially brutal session, he would stare at his own reflection in the bathroom mirror and wonder why that image of power felt so insufficient, so hollow, so false.

He had no steady partner. Dates almost always ended the same way: fast, mechanical, efficient sex, without depth, and then the feeling that something fundamental had slipped through his fingers. Gustavo did not yet know that what he was looking for was not company, but controlled annihilation. He did not know that the discipline he cultivated so much could become the perfect weapon to destroy him if someone knew exactly how to use it against him.
