Thirteenth Chapter

The following days were intense, with long stays at the clinic where the father was hospitalized. Sedated and stable, but with no significant improvement. Several operations had to be performed and the doctors were reserved in their prognoses, to Bautista’s anguish. Blas felt no gratification, but rather some relief and also concern: he did not want a fatal outcome before having everything tied up.

The father’s management and advisory teams consulted only formally with Bautista, incapable of making decisions about the businesses. In practice, it was the father’s best friend, who served as a manager in the parent company, who took the reins of the business and, in a turn of reality and pragmatism, preferred to tell the relevant facts to Blas, who was the clearest and most visionary of the brothers.

Blas did nothing exceptional or outside the limits, but it was evident that he was the only one with will and decisiveness: everyone already knew it, but he did not abuse that; rather, he withdrew, because he did not want it to cost him later. He knew that his father would come out of that trance and then he would have no mercy on him if he found out about any excess by his unwanted son.

Containment, moderation, self-control: attributes that Blas tried to put into practice in these dark days for the family and of near glory for him.

But the exercise of these behaviors, which required considerable willpower from him, Blas accompanied with an anxious and frantic search into his morbid interests and a growing fetishism.

Taking advantage of his unlimited internet access in the family home, using his brother’s notebooks, he spent the afternoon and night browsing leather equipment stores and then outright BDSM ones. He remembered each of the pieces of equipment used by The Lord and looked for them on sites and in articles, finding out their costs and suppliers.

He put the credit card back into his brother’s wallet, discreetly. He did it the night of the purchase when he went to see him in his room.
