Sebas had prepared everything with care that afternoon. The aromatic candles filled the living room with a soft golden glow, he had bought Mateo's favorite flowers - those pink peonies that he loved so much - and had placed them in the crystal vase that Mateo's mother had given him when he moved into his apartment. The French champagne they had drunk on their first date was chilling in the fridge, waiting for the perfect moment, and the pineapple with chocolate - Mateo's favorite dessert - was elegantly placed on the table, ready to be served.

When he heard the keys in the lock, his heart accelerated. Mateo entered with that radiant smile that had made him fall in love from the first day, his blond curly hair still damp from the gym shower, wearing that blue shirt that enhanced his eyes of the same color.

"What's all this?" Mateo asked, stopping at the threshold of the living room, his eyes shining with genuine surprise.

Sebas approached him and hugged him by the waist, feeling that perfect and warm body against his. The familiar scent of Mateo, that mix of shower gel and his natural perfume, calmed him.

"It's our anniversary, love. We couldn't celebrate properly on Tuesday, so tonight we'll do it right. I wanted to do something special for us," he murmured against his ear, depositing soft kisses on his neck.

Mateo's arms surrounded him, and for a moment, they were just the two of them, like in the old days.

"Sebas... you didn't have to do all this," Mateo whispered, but his voice carried that tenderness that he had missed so much. "I love you very much."

"I love you too, baby. More than you can imagine," Sebas replied. "And that's why... not only have I prepared this, but tonight I have a very special surprise for you."

Mateo separated himself slightly to look into his eyes, those delicate hands caressing his beard.

"What kind of surprise?" he asked with curiosity, showing that mischievous smile.

Sebas took his hands and kissed them softly.

"Something I think you needed. Something we needed. I've been thinking about what you told me, about intensity, about what you miss... and I think I've found a way to give it to you."

The expression on Mateo's face changed, a mix of intrigue and expectation.

"Sebas, I don't understand..."

"You'll understand when the time comes, now let's enjoy the evening," Sebas said, trying to maintain his voice firm.

The two of them enjoyed the next few hours in peace. A peace that they didn't know would change with the passing minutes.
