Chapter 2, The Dehumanization of a Clown

Don Risitas and Mr. Jajá enter the stage with synchronized steps, greeting the audience with grand bows as cheerful circus music plays.

• Don Risitas: "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the circus of heavy jokes! I'm Don Risitas and this is my partner Mr. Jajá, today we have a special show with our... what do we call him, Jajá?"

• Mr. Jajá: [with a shrill laugh] "Our servant, our pig, our joke bag... Guarrillo!"

The audience applauds as the vagabond clown enters crawling, wearing a leather collar with a pig pendant that jingles, tries to get up, but Don Risitas gives him a push with his foot, making him fall again; the audience starts laughing.

• Don Risitas: "Look at our servant, Guarrillo! Why don't you greet the audience like the pig you are?"

The vagabond clown, ashamed, gets on his knees and starts making pig sounds: "Oink, oink!" The audience bursts into laughter.

Mr. Jajá pulls out a tape measure and pretends to measure Guarrillo's buttocks while he continues crawling.

• Mr. Jajá: "Don Risitas, look at this! This pig's buttocks are so big they don't fit in the corral! How much do they measure, audience? One meter? Two meters?"

The audience shouts random numbers, laughing; while the vagabond clown tries to hide, but Don Risitas pulls him by the collar.

• Don Risitas: "Don't hide, pig! Those buttocks are your best trick, aren't they, Jajá?"

• Mr. Jajá: "Of course! A pig with buttocks so big they could eclipse the sun!"

Don Risitas and Mr. Jajá laugh out loud while Guarrillo, red with shame, continues making pig sounds: "Oink, oink!" The audience applauds and laughs.

Don Risitas pulls out a megaphone and starts giving orders to the vagabond clown as if he were a servant.

• Don Risitas: "Guarrillo, our servant, bring the cake you prepared for the audience!"

The vagabond clown, trembling, enters with a huge cake covered in pink cream, carries it with difficulty, and his buttocks protrude even more as he walks; Mr. Jajá gets behind him and pretends to trip, pushing him.

• Mr. Jajá: "Oh, how clumsy I am! But look, pig, your buttocks are so big they cushioned my fall, hahaha!"

The audience laughs out loud while Guarrillo struggles not to drop the cake; Don Risitas approaches, takes the cake from his hands, and examines it.

• Don Risitas: "What a beautiful cake! But... wait a minute, Jajá, do you think a pig deserves to try it?"

• Mr. Jajá: "No! Pigs like him don't eat cake... but surely they like to wear it on their face!"

Before Guarrillo can react, Don Risitas throws the cake directly in his face, covering his makeup with pink cream; the vagabond clown stumbles, tries to clean himself, and lets out an "Oink, oink!" as the cream drips down his clothes. The audience bursts into laughter and applause...
