Summary of previous chapters: After finishing his studies, Tristan is enrolled by his family in the abbey of a religious order where they train young boys to place them as submissive servants in the homes of wealthy gentlemen. The abbot of the order commissions the sports coach, Horacio, to train the young man; in chapter 5 Tristan loses control during a medical examination and is transferred by the monks to the punishment dungeon.

Horacio noticed the pressure of a soft but firm hand on his shoulder, which he immediately identified as the abbot's. As he turned around, the prior's expression conveyed the same tranquility and authority as his hand; he indicated that he should accompany him while Father Julian and his assistants put the chairs and the room used for the first class of the initiation course to submission for boys outside the Abbey in order. The coach already imagined the subject of the conversation they were going to have, and praised in his mind the discretion and expertise of the abbot, who took him to a private office that was empty at that time and closed the door.
