And yesterday, already in the church, while Gerardo was greeting the guests, I stood to observe him. No one more elegant, attractive, masculine. He, my God, I, his toy. Possessed and dragged by him, I had erased my guilt for betraying my family. My walls had been crumbling before my surrender and desire to serve him.

He made a gesture and I followed him.

"Angel, let's go for a moment," Gerardo pointed to a dark chapel and we hid behind a confessional. "It's not the time or the place, but listen to me."

I got scared. That unexpected conversation...

"Have I done something wrong? The shoes?" I asked. The night before, I had gone to pick them up and I already noticed he was being strange, distant.

"You're about to become the godfather of my first child. For you, I don't know; for me, it's important," he began.

I remembered that his father had died when he was a child and the importance in his life of his godfather, a friend of his father.

"Yesterday, when you were trying on the shoes, I saw you bent down with the shoe horn and I decided it's time to ask you something. I demand, listen to me, without beating around the bush, you tell me... " he looked at me like he does at his subordinates who are waiting for his orders at the police station "... if you're willing to continue and how far you're willing to demonstrate your loyalty to me" he threw his challenge at me suddenly, without warning. "And if not, you say so, frankly. I need to be sure what I can expect from you."

My gesture of incomprehension, my surprise, my open mouth didn't seem to be enough for him.

"I repeat. You're about to become the godfather of my firstborn. You'll end up not being able to bear living in hiding, always being in the background. I want more from you, but be clear that from now on, everything is going to change."

"If you have the slightest doubt about my commitment," I said almost without realizing it, "it's that I'm not worthy of you and I don't serve you. I'll always be in the shadows, it's inevitable. I'm very aware of our situation."

"Never lie to me, Angel, never be false with me. What I decide will always be the best for both of us. That's my commitment. You decide yours."

"You will always be mine and I will always protect you. You will never lack anything," he repeated.

I brushed my hand against his. He didn't pull it away. He took my arm and started walking. I let him lead me.
