A quiet night, Luis looked at Tomás with serene but firm eyes. After a lot of thinking, he finally confessed:

—Tomás, I want to be Max 24 hours, 7 days. I want to free myself from being Luis forever. I don't want to hear that name or that life again. Being Max is what truly makes me happy.

Tomás felt a whirlwind of emotions. On one hand, sadness for losing Luis as he knew him, and on the other, a deep compassion and love for Max, the pure and devoted being he had learned to love. Although the decision was difficult, he understood and accepted it, happy because Luis had found his peace.

Both agreed that for Max to be completely Max, they should resort to hypnosis to reprogram Luis. This time it would be irreversible: Luis would lose human consciousness, not understanding any verbal human language other than the commands of the tricks Tomás had taught him. Thus, his trance would be permanent, with no possibility of leaving it.

—Now I can be Tomás' boyfriend for real —he said with a mix of joy and nervousness—. But I want to go slow… I don't want to ruin this relationship so important for the three of us.

Everyone understood that this was the new stage of their lives.

Being Max is direct happiness, without complications, without human fears that weigh on my chest. Only simple and pure love remains, games, caresses, the simplicity of being a dog. Now I leave behind all human noise to live this peace. I don't know if I'll return sometime, but here, in this body of Max, I know who I truly am. It's time to say goodbye... and bark happily at the new dawn.
