After the Stonewall riots in 1969, desire stopped hiding. Bars like The Eagle in New York appeared, spaces where BDSM was lived without guilt. Parties like the Folsom Street Fair turned pleasure into a political parade.

The impact of HIV/AIDS strongly shook the gay community, and especially the BDSM world. But instead of disappearing, leather spaces reorganized. Codes like SSC (Safe, Sane, and Consensual) emerged, putting consent and health at the center of everything.
