Guicho had always been a pretty asshole. He is seven years older than me and since we were kids, he used to boss around my brother Juanito and me.

Abusive, a bully, a thief; he was a real troublemaker. The three of us grew up in a town where there weren't many opportunities to get ahead; Guicho was always taller than us, even though we are cousins, he has very white skin, while Juanito and I are dark-skinned and short.

Guicho turned 21 and went to live in the States. I think the whole town celebrated that day.

When my brother came of age, he and I moved together to the capital; after several jobs, we managed to get employed as janitors in a luxury residential complex.

We lived on the rooftop of one of the buildings, in a very small room where our bunk bed barely fit, a table, a stove, and a bathroom without a door.

One day my mom called us to tell us that Guicho had been locked up in Atlanta. I guess she thought we would care. I didn't know much about it, only that apparently they caught him stealing with a firearm.

My brother and I kept working hard, earning the trust and appreciation of all the tenants living in the residential complex until the day my mom called us to tell us that they would deport my cousin.

That day, my mother insisted, almost begged us to let Guicho live with us, no matter how much we explained that we didn't have room to accommodate him, there was no way to make her give up - you are good and hardworking, and you can teach your cousin to be honest - she would say.

Neither Juanito nor I believed we could change anything in that jerk, he was born bad and was going to die bad. But since we didn't like hearing our mother begging, we ended up accepting it, and the owner of the residential complex authorized us to have one more janitor on the condition that we split what was paid among the three of us.

When Guicho returned from the States, he had changed physically: now he was 33 years old, he had the same features and his skin was still very white, but now he was a very muscular asshole, with wide shoulders, very thick legs, a well-defined round chest, and tremendously large arms.
