Autoerotic asphyxia

Autoerotic asphyxia, also known as sexual suspension, is the practice of inducing cerebral hypoxia, usually by means of self-applied restraints or suffocating devices, while the individual masturbates until orgasm.

It consists of preventing breathing for oneself or one's partner, either by obstructing the airways by covering the head with plastic or latex elements or by resorting to semi-strangulation. This is a dangerous sexual practice that has led to death. When practiced alone, it is called autoerotic asphyxia.

The term "autoerotic asphyxia" was coined in 1991 in a study in an American scientific journal.
